Tinig UK is starting a new training programme aimed to help young people develop intercultural communication skills to navigate diverse social and cultural settings and thrive in education, work and community life. Young migrants often arrive in the UK with strong qualifications, ambition and professional experience, yet many face unspoken cultural barriers that can affect their confidence and opportunities.
STRIDE: Strengthening Intercultural Resilience, Dialogue and Empowerment is a new training programme recently funded by the National Lottery Community Fund. Designed for young people aged 16 to 30, the programme supports young migrants in building confidence, communication skills and cultural understanding.
The initiative was developed following community consultations, a reader survey and engagement with young migrants and volunteers. Through their research, Tinig UK identified common challenges faced by many young people, including low confidence in speaking up in classrooms and workplaces, uncertainty around UK cultural and professional expectations, anxieties linked to identity and belonging, and a lack of accessible intercultural training opportunities.
STRIDE responds to these needs through practical, interactive workshops aimed to empower young people to embrace their multicultural identities, strengthen their sense of belonging and unlock their full potential.
The programme focuses on three key areas: understanding culture, identity and belonging; developing intercultural communication skills; and building confidence in speaking and self-expression. Participants will explore how culture influences communication, learn strategies for navigating cultural differences, and gain tools to communicate effectively in diverse educational, professional and social settings.
