Tinig UK press release workshop

Be more visible : Press release writing workshop to empower immigrants

Liezel Longboan

We can be more visible as immigrants. How? By learning how to write a press release, speaking beyond our community, and reaching out to local media. If the media won’t come to us, let’s go to them.

For many Filipinos and immigrant communities across the UK, the aspiration to gain voice and visibility in their new home is a powerful one. It reflects a universal need — to be seen, heard, and recognised for the contributions they make in their adopted countries. Migrant communities play vital roles in shaping the UK’s cultural, economic, and social landscape, and their stories deserve to be shared.

Did you know, for example, that the UK has been recruiting social workers from the Philippines since the early 2010s? Beyond Filipino nurses, carers, and engineers, the UK also relies on the skills of Filipino accountants, butchers, hospitality staff, and fishers, among many other professions.

We invite Filipinos and East and Southeast Asians to participate in our online workshop:
“Be More Visible: How to Write a Successful Press Release”
📅 Date: Saturday, 7th December
⏰ Time: 11:00 AM
💷 Fee: £20/person or £50/group of 3

The workshop will be facilitated by Tinig UK founder and Content Director Liezel Longboan and experienced public relations and former journalist Anthony Jomel Gutierrez. Between them, Liezel and Jomel have 40 years experience as journalists, journalism educators and communication professionals in the UK and in the Philippines.

In this training, you’ll learn step-by-step techniques to craft press releases that media outlets will want to publish, helping your stories gain the recognition they deserve.

While we at Tinig UK are committed to amplifying these voices and covering events that showcase immigrant contributions, our limited resources often prevent us from attending all the events we are invited to. Currently, we operate without external funding and rely mainly on paid advertisements and marketing services to sustain our work.

That’s why we’re taking a different approach—empowering business owners and community members to tell their own stories. By learning how to write a press release, you can bring greater visibility to your events, products, and services, ensuring they reach wider audiences, including local media outlets.

Together, we can ensure that every story worth telling gets the platform it deserves. Let’s work towards a more visible and celebrated immigrant community in the UK.
