There is something truly special about finding a piece of home when you are thousands of miles away. For the Filipino community in Hampshire, that “home” has a name: the Filipino Association of Southampton (FAS).

Established in 2005, FAS has evolved from a simple community group into a vibrant, multi-generational family. It is a place where every Filipino is welcomed with open arms — whether they are a newly arrived migrant worker, a British-Filipino born in the UK, or someone who has called the south coast home for decades.

Celebrating the seasons of life

FAS serves as the “cultural glue” for the area, keeping the spirit of the Philippines alive through a calendar filled with joy and meaning. The association ensures that no season passes without a celebration. From lively Easter and Halloween programmes that delight children and families, to inclusive Valentine’s events that offer warmth to couples, singles, and the widowed alike, FAS creates a space where connection is the priority.

The highlight of the year remains the Philippine Independence Day celebrations. These events transform Southampton into a vibrant showcase of heritage, filled with the sights of traditional dances, the aromas of beloved Filipino dishes, and the unmistakable sound of Bayanihan spirit.

Nurturing the next generation

Beyond the festivities, FAS serves as a stage for growth. The association takes immense pride in nurturing young talent, providing a platform for the youth to build confidence and shine in both the arts and sports. By encouraging the “young and the not-so-young” to stay active and engaged, FAS ensures that the passions of the community never fade, and that cultural pride is passed down to the next generation with honor.

A deeper purpose: unity in adversity

However, the true heart of FAS is revealed in times of struggle. Beyond the gatherings, the association is built on a foundation of compassion and unity. Through various charity initiatives, FAS has been a lifeline for kababayans in the Philippines affected by floods, earthquakes, and other calamities.

Closer to home, the group offers a different kind of support — standing by families who have lost loved ones and offering comfort during times of grief. These acts of kindness are made possible by the unwavering generosity of the Southampton community, whose support fuels every FAS-organised charity effort.

The legacy of leadership

This legacy of excellence is no accident. It is the result of nearly two decades of dedication from leaders, past and present, whose commitment has made FAS one of the most respected and well-loved associations in the UK.

As FAS continues to grow, it remains a powerful reminder that no matter where life takes us, our culture, our friendships, and our sense of belonging will always find a way to thrive.

Mabuhay ang FAS!
