Philippine Independence Day 2022 events across the UK

Maalab na Araw ng Kalayaan sa lahat! After last week’s Jubilee celebrations, we now turn our attention to the Philippines this weekend as we commemorate its 124th Independence Day. If you are keen to listen to or sing Lupang Hinirang (the Philippines’ national anthem), why not join a flag-raising event in London, Birmingham or Cardiff on 12th June, the Philippines’ national day? London

11 June Dinner and dance party in honour of the 13 martyrs of Cavite, Leonardo Royal London Hotel, London E1 8GP

Organised by the Caviteños UK Association, members will be paying tribute to the 13 martyrs of Cavite who sacrificed their lives for the country’s freedom.

12 June, 2 PM – 6 PM Filipino Cultural Day, Fellowship Square, Walthamstow E17 4JF

Organised by Igorot UK Charity, join the Philippine flag-raising ceremony and induction of the charity’s new board of trustees in Walthamstow. Watch live musical performances by Filipino artists. You can also avail of free diabetes checks, free Covid vaccination for 18 years and over and free Keeping Well resource for NHS and Health and Social care staff.

12 June, from 1 PM ‘Hikay’, Filipino food pop up lunch at Pamela in Dalston E8 4AA

To celebrate Philippine Independence Day, The Adobros will be serving a Cebuano-inspired lunchtime feast: vegetable ngohiong, linarang na isda, lechon belly roll, bam-i, nangka nga tinuno-an, torta de Cebu, bocarillo, sikwate. £50/person.

Birmingham

12 June, 9 AM Philippine flag-raising ceremony, Victoria Square, Birmingham B2 4

Organised by Kami Pinoy UK, this will be the 21st year that the Philippine flag will be raised in front of the Birmingham City Council.

Manchester

11 June, 10 AM – 6 PM Barrio Fiesta and Independence Day celebration, Irish World Heritage Centre, 1 Irish Town Way M8 OAE

Organised by Filipino-Anglo Club Manchester, the event will feature performances by Spencer and Michael of the Streetboys, Lady Mercury, and many others. £2 entrance fee which includes a raffle ticket.

Leeds

2 July, 9 AM – 5 PM Barrio Fiesta, Ramgarhia Sports Centre, Chapteltown Road LS7 3AP

Brought to you by the Filipino Leeds Community, this Barrio Fiesta will have singing, folk dance and street dance competitions for different age groups.

Cardiff

12 June, 10 AM Philippine flag-raising ceremony, Cardiff Castle CF10 3RB

Organised by Samar-Leyte Association Wales, the flag-raising event will be followed by a reception at Highfields Inn.

Scotland

12 June, 9 AM – 5 PM First ever Barrio Fiesta in Scotland, Ramnee Hotel, Victoria Road, Forres IV36 3BN

There will be performances by Bryan Del Rosario and the Street Boys, traditional Filipino games, raffle, food, and disco. £5 entrance fee including raffle ticket.
