UK Filipinos awarded by an international nonprofit

Seven Filipinos in the UK were recently awarded by the Ladies of All Nations International (LOANI), a nonprofit organisation based in Britain at their world summit held in the Philippines.

With the theme Celebrating Filipino Excellence Worldwide, LOANI recognised 30 individuals for their commitment to leadership  excellence,  community service, and  for  initiating  crucial  dialogues  that  raise  awareness  of  issues  affecting  Philippine  migrant  communities globally. Out of the 30, seven of them live in the UK.

Oliver Soriano

Oliver Soriano was recognised for his outstanding achievements as president of the Philippine Nurses Association UK (PNA UK). He has played a vital role in advancing the vision and goals of the association, notably through mentorship programs, mental health first aid training, and securing financial grants for various projects. Oliver’s transformative leadership extends to fostering partnerships with organisations globally. He is currently the chief nurse at Lancashire and South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust, the first Filipino to be appointed in an executive role in the UK. Learn more about PNA UK at www.mypnauk.org

Estella Gomez

Estella Gomez is a retired teacher who dedicates her time to creating positive impact in the community. She organises charity events for the Philippines, mentors in her church, and volunteers at UK food banks. She was recognised by LOANI for her varied leadership roles as co-founder of Women’s Voice UK, secretary/treasurer in Aguman Kapampangan UK, contributor to FSSC, and London diocese deanery synod representative. Her unwavering dedication springs from years of teaching, fostering meaningful relationships through volunteering.

Lodela ‘Ela’ Hidalgo

Lodela ‘Ela’ Hidalgo has organized impactful fundraisers in the UK, aiding causes like typhoon relief and medical assistance. Ela founded the Covid Warriors Corner (CWC) group, uniting 4,900 members worldwide during the pandemic. CWC, supported by Filipino celebrities, provided mental well-being initiatives, live streamed shows, and aided frontline workers in the UK and the Philippines. Ela’s leadership in CWC continues, fostering partnerships with like-minded individuals and organizations.

Lynette Media Thompson

Lynette Medina Thompson is a versatile individual who serves as a physiotherapy assistant, model, beauty queen, and dedicated advocate for charitable causes. Her notable achievements include Modern Filipina Heroism of the Year, Women of Excellence awardee, and UK Ambassador for MUSA Fabrics. As Mrs. Aguman UK, she supports disadvantaged children and elderly individuals in the Philippines. Lynette’s involvement in charitable fashion events not only raises funds but also inspires women, emphasizing compassionate leadership. LOANI applauds her passion and commitment to serving and empowering her community.

Britanya Ngayon

Britanya Ngayon is a UK-based program affiliated with the radio and television network International Broadcasting Corporation (IBC). It is dedicated to assisting overseas Filipinos by sharing stories and providing a bridge to community services. Since its Facebook Live premiere on May 1, 2021, it has expanded globally. LOANI applauds their efforts in encouraging unity and cultural celebration. Led by Carolyn Panday, the team includes Amy Balliao, Babo Gamboa, Rafael Granada-Rafales, and Susan Pelaez-Robinson who volunteer passionately to keep the program running. Cesdon Joy Torres Liddle

Cesdon Joy Torres Liddle passionately utilises her artistic talents to support charitable causes, raise awareness on crucial issues, and empower women. Her artworks convey beauty and are inspired by the Philippine’s colourful cultural heritage and tradition. As a former Mrs. EuroAsia Philippines and Mrs. UK Philippines Universe, she challenges stereotypes, emphasising women’s worth beyond appearance. Juggling motherhood, studying to be an Early Years educator, and work, Cesdon Joy actively supports initiatives against malnutrition, fundraises for children in the Philippines, and contributes to WWF UK and UNICEF UK.

Eleanor Sy Templeman

Eleanor Sy Templeman is an advocate for Filipina domestic workers. She works tirelessly to address abuse and promote changes in visa application processes. In the 1980s, she played a crucial role in challenging stereotypes faced by Filipinas in the UK through her involvement in the Filipino Women Association UK. She contributed to a transformative movement which includes various activities such as fundraising, media monitoring, and organising discussions on modern slavery. Eleanor’s creative pursuits include writing a musical and co-authoring an immersive play addressing the challenges of undocumented individuals. Her ongoing advocacy focuses on highlighting the struggles of migrant workers.

The LOANI world summit was attended by 200 delegates on 18 to 20 October at the Diamond Hotel in Manila.
