Filipino street artist Blic to hold exhibit in London

After his debut in Italy in 2020 at the Dorothy Circus Gallery in Rome, Filipino street artist, Blic, returns with a brand new series, this time in London. Entitled “Joy of Spring,” Blic’s exhibit focuses on initiation, regeneration, recovery and revival.

Expressing his art through the distinctive image of personified hands, Blic’s new body of work conveys a visual dialogue of love and friendship, celebrating the flourishing of a human tale in relationship with nature. Indeed, the central theme of his art – hands as a tool for universal communication – reflects his desire and determination to emerge and spread his voice across the globe, reaching us like a tennis ball thrown by a little boy across the ocean.

Based in the province of Cavite in southern Luzon in the Philippines, Blic is a self-taught artist with an extremely original, expressive and effective visual code. His distinctive character, a personified human hand with a smile emoji that runs through the streets, has become popular in the kawaii pop movement and the artist has been gaining international recognition and success.

Blic’s works have been presented in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Korea, Japan, Lebanon, Portugal, United Kingdom and his paintings have been auctioned by Philips and Sothebys since 2022.

Taking inspiration from Botticelli’s iconic “Primavera,” Blic’s collection evokes a new beginning, a change and a resurrection, symbolized through the allegorical coming of spring as the inevitable result of the sacred cycle of nature in its succession of all seasons.

Tropical landscapes and scented flowers from the artist’s everyday life become a new symbol  of Blic’s imagery as a precious addition  to  his signature hand’s  iconography.

Passionate about computer graphics as a young computer science student, Blic was introduced to street art by a friend who was a member of Pilipinas Street Plan, a collective of Filipino street artists spread in different geographic locations. In an interview, he reveals that street art gives him the joy of “making art and sharing it.”

BLIC is also founding member of Cavity Collective, a local community of street artists based in Cavite that colours the streets with creativity and passion.

“Joy of Spring” runs from  6th October until  5th November at the the Dorothy Circus Gallery,  35 Connaught Street, W2 2AZ, London.
